From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

The attention to detail and the level of care that we received before, during and after our fathers funeral, from everyone at Youngs, was exemplary. We really felt that we had their undivided attention nothing was too much trouble. During such an emotional time it was great to know all aspects of the funeral were being taken care of to such high standards. Well done and thank you to everyone at Youngs.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.
I previously lived in Loddon and my parents were based at Beauchamp House, Chedgrave - the next village to Loddon. When my Mother sadly passed away I knew immediately that I wanted to use Youngs for the funeral service.
From the moment my wife and I went to their office I knew we had made the right decision. All arrangements were very carefully and professionally talked through and all items linked to the funeral were managed on our behalf e.g. flowers, newspaper announcement, order of service, liaison with the vicar.
On the day of funeral the team were very professional and the biggest compliment I can offer is that we hardly knew they were there, everything ran very smoothly.
Finally the boxes given to me and my Father post the service were very thoughtful and much appreciated.

We are very proud of our team and the care they give and it means the world when we hear from the families that we have looked after.
